Nearly 400 hundred years ago the Dutch sailed all the way from Europe to Asia and conquered a little town called Anping on the south west of Formosa. This was a strategic location, perfect for them to expand their commercial activities in Asia.
During their 38 year rule here, the Dutch built a fort called Zeelandia and the remaints of it can still be seen today. The thick fort walls are particularly impressive and were built using a technique called Dutch Bond.
Today, Anping is known as Tainan, and Formosa is better known as Taiwan. Let's go for a little walk around this historical fort.

The red bricks are very recognizable to me - so many of our homes are still built with those. Gorgeous place to visit!
It was interesting to read about the technique used to build the walls, must be pretty good given the fortress walls are still after all these years
