Canada in World War One

in #dtube7 years ago

In Canada we’re coming up on Remembrance Day. It’s comparable to the American Memorial Day except we observe it on November 11th with services at cenotaphs across the nation at 11am.

I’m going to share videos on wartime Canada over the next while. Many Canadians are unaware of our nation’s military history and sacrifices. Today’s video provides a short overview of Canada in WW1.

We are not a nation prone to war but when called upon we have a reputation as fierce and effective fighters. A former American marine recently told me, “I never trained with Canadians but they have a reputation as been really nice people until a fight breaks out, then they are crazy fuckers!” Sounds about right.

My internet is too slow to watch videos but I like what you're doing with this. My Dad was military so I grew up on military bases and ended up meeting a lot of Vets. The best was a member of the Devil Brigades, so I'm hoping you share some of their

My dad was a member of the Irish Regiment of Canada as they fought their way up through Italy during WW2.

I was just looking at the arrival of the Canadians clip from the Devil's Brigade movie and was thinking it would be good to get some more material on the real Devil's Brigade.

That would have been amazing to have met one of those guys. I had the honour of knowing one of Canada's most highly decorated WW1 soldiers.

My next upload is about the best sniper of WW1, a Canadian First Nations. Our First Nations have much to be proud of their war service inspite of the racism they often faced to serve this country.

For the Devil's Brigade look up Defendu.

thanks @openparadigm .. I will

I remember hearing many stories about Canadian military personnel while I was living in Europe about 43 years ago. People there remember our brave boys for being gallant off the field and real heroes on the battlefield. I heard some amazing feats of bravery. And humble too.

and they still are @cecicastor .. I get to spend some time around some of the serving people ... quiet confident and professional

An honour to talk to them...
