You know, I use a separate sound recording device all together. The advantage is that you get far superior sound, your proximity to the camera no longer matters and in really loud environments you can turn down the level to 10% and still get distortion free sound. You can place the microphone for the best sound and place the Camera for the best video angle. I use a Zoom H1, they cost about $90, and I use a cheap old fishing pole to get it where I need it.
