Today I took a bath with the Samsung Galaxy A8 2018 to test out it’s IP68 water and dust resistance. I got to say that it seems to hold up pretty well!
Samsung has started to make it a standard feature to give out water resistance on their mid-range devices. This device cost a little bit more than Galaxy A5 2017. If it’s worth to buy is a good question. I think I will do more comparisons between the 2 devices to check more what I think about it.
Will also compare Galaxy A8 against the iPhone 7 and iPhone 6s to see how it performs. People usually like to see gaming performance and benchmark scores.
The Galaxy A8 will probably perform a bit better in water resistance than the Galaxy S5 for example. Because the S5 even though it was a flagship device it still had a removable back. And if you wasn’t careful enough water could enter the back.
I hope in the future that all new devices gives you water resistance level since it’s great for outdoor rain and the beach to be able to use the phone in water. Since many want to take photos of their friends when they are having fun in water!
It can be hard to use the display once water hits the display. Something we have seen with most water resistant devices. I really hope that in the future we will get a device that has a display that is still usable even when water hits it!
Maybe I also should test the Galaxy A8 against some Sony or LG smartphones. Especially since it looks very identical to the LG G6 smartphone. Because of the all-screen front display. The fingerprint sensor could still be a bit bigger and use a better location. Samsung still need to work on their design strategy. It’s not perfect!
