Out with the Old - In with the New!!
I am the proud owner of a 1968 VW Fastback. I love this old car, but at times the car was plagued with an misfire and an erratic running engine. As it was my birthday today, I thought it was a good idea to treat myself with some nice goodies for the old car!!
I thought it was a good idea to change the car's old ignition system, which consisted of a distributor with points and condenser, with a more modern electronic ignition system, making use of a distributor with a hall effect sensor. What is very nice off these old VW, is that one can buy most of the goodies of the shelf!! I had to search a bit, but found a very nice shop, named Road Rats in the town of Krugerdorp, which is about 100km away from Pretoria, where I live. Below you can see all the unpacked goodies - NICE!!
As the conversion is actually meant for a VW Beetle, I had to modify it a bit to fit, as you can see on the photo below, the plug for the wires is quite tight fitting!! I wonder why things must always be on the place where there is no space, as you can see on the right hand side of the distributor there is ample space!!
After I fitted everything it was time to start and test the car, and I must say the old lady now runs as smooth as a much more modern car!!
I hope you enjoyed the post as much as I enjoyed writing it.
The photos, were taken by me, with my iPhone, in Pretoria, South Africa.

While I think this is a good post, it is not STEM related. Please only use the #STEM tag if it is related to STEM topics.
STEM Topics
Mechanics is not engineering unless you were designing engines or cars.
Thank you for the feedback@stemgeeks, I new the post should be about the list above.
My thinking was that I was writing about technology, although it is very old technology (Distributor with contact breakers and condenser) being replaced by more modern technology. (Distributor with hall sensor and electronic ignition module).
I will give it another try at some stage, hopefully with better results and your approval.
The old VW looks really strong I do like the unique design of this model of VW. I am glad you still drive and enjoy the car till now @rynow
