I agree that the articles that show how much energy is consumed for mining cryptocurrency certainly show a staggering amount. I have less negative of the current levels though, as I am looking at the implications further down the line. Decentralization via blockchain will disrupt so many industries that undoubtedly consume high amounts of energy and produce pollution. Technology will continue its march of being more a ubiquitous aspect of human experience and hopefully we can work on improving sustainability of the system, while still allowing for a less fearful mindset to encourage wider adoption.
