the only time they really get aggressive when they swarm is if they are what we call a " dry swarm" when half the colony leaves to find a new home they fill up their honey stomachs to tide them over for a few days until they can find new diggs and begin buillding comb. But here is the kicker they don't decide where they are going to go until after they leave the old hive. They basically cluster up like what you saw on that branch and vote on the new locations the scouts have found. If they can't come to a consensus or bad weather hits they sometimes get stuck where they cluster and use up all of their honey they are carrying with them. When this happens they can become very aggressive . This is also why they march right into a new home when presented one like you saw here because it only takes a few to go in and they are like hey this works and start fanning to call the others in..... oh and no stings on that one LOL
