The situation is apparently even worse than that - since the underlying structure of the EU appears to have been designed by one of Nazi Germany's law makers who escaped prosecution at Nuremberg by lying and then went on to sign the treaty of Rome!
However, I do not immediately feel a need to blame the EU here since the Spanish government appears to be directly responsible.

Of course I don't blame the EU just because of what the Spanish government did. I have that opinion because I have seen the same tendency in various countries of the EU in the last 5 years. (and because of the average EU politics) This is just another proof that democracy exists as long as you stand in line and do what they want you to do.
It's from a book I read a while ago, I will find it and make a post about it - it's an important one that few have seen.
