We wouldn't be having this argument over intellectual property if Thomas Jefferson had won the argument that only tangible things can be property. It seems he lost because of the need to make money on ideas and not to become the victim of stolen ideas. But it seems we will be going back into the direction of intellectual property becoming more open. It turns out that ideas have more value when they are open source and not controlled.

Patrick and I were just talking about that yesterday. I was explaining that more things are going to be open source, and that with the dying out of necessity for monetary compensation for everything, the world may very well become more collaborative in ideas, music, programs, etc. At the very least copyright law will look much different, if it even will exist at all!
