Dtube Functionability & Searchability

in #dtubedaily7 years ago

Functionabilty:

This one is pretty obvious:
It’s completely understandable to take on this method because we obviously need a fully functioning site to post and interact etc… Great job by the devs on getting a functioning site and for coming so far and I know the team is working hard on it.

Searchability:

This one I think is a little more complicated. And I have some genuine questions to ask.
I think that the searchability aspect on dtube is related to Steemit with the 7 day payout period. Hot/Trending videous, but would it be possible for dtube to make videos visible in spite of this on the dtube platform only? And could this 7-day payout period be contributing to the lack in diversity of content? Will people who don’t always get hot/trending videos even be visible at all in the long run?

I’m finding it somewhat to find videos I like… I know one of the major reasons is there just isn’t that much content on dtube as of yet in general… but I think also many people have leaning towards making videos about dtube/blockchain in hopes that it will bring them a dtube upvote also.

Let me know Dtubers, I need some help, and I’m sure I’m not the only one out there!

This leads to my next question:
Will dtube eventually have more personal type of videos or will it always be heavily based on blockchain? Obviously, it is blockchain based so I know that will always be a dominant theme on dtube and that’s great.
Even though I’m interested in blockchain and cryptos, I really hope the future of dtube willhave other interests searchable and visible, and an abundant amount of diverse content.

For example: lifestyle, homesteading, travel, even things that I’m not interested in or things that are not necessarily related to blockchain. Will there be a future for that on dtube? I really hope there will be. There is starting to be more posts about different interests, but they are just not very visible at this time. Because of the way Steemit makes content visible.

Is there an audience for non block chain related videos? Should I do it anyways? Should I not? What do you guys think? What do you guys on the dtube community think?

With 7-day payout deal on Steemit, if someone posts a more personal video today, will it be visible down the road if another user was looking for that type of content or would it just be lost on the blockchain forever?
Will videos that don’t go hot or trending ever be visible? Can dtube find a way around this issue? Is this even an issue for others?

What do you guys think, leave your comments down below, I would love to hear what you think. Thanks for watching

Are functionability and searchability even real words? ;-)

I've had the same thoughts exactly! I think the platform will have to expand to more diverse content in order to attract more people and become mainstream, but I feel like currently you need to talk about blockchain/dtube to get the big attention. But I believe there are already a lot of people in the platform interested in more diverse stuff, and it's just about finding them:)
I've started following some hashtags that interest me through @Ginabot- there are too many notifications, so it's just a temporary thing, but it helps me find new people who are talking about those things.

Yeah, I think a lot of people have the same thoughts. It will eventually expand I believe. Dtube is just at the beginning and will grow for sure. I know I am interested in other things and I'm sure I'm not alone. Also are a part of any steemit discord channel or are you posting your videos on the dtube discord? If not you should, I can help you.

Thanks, I'm on discord, but I've mostly been silently reading:) But thanks for the suggestion, I'll start trying to post my videos there.

It would be nice to see more diversity of video content here on Dtube, which would help it make it more mainstream as well, which would then also encourage more diverse content etc etc etc. Of course, a quicker easier sign up process would also help as well.

I think there will be more diversity in the future, its still really early and most people just laugh at cryptos and would never be willing to try it out...so we have a large wall to scale but I think it will grow for sure. Thanks for stopping by!

I think absolutely YES!, there is an audience for non-blockchain related content. But I think as well that this audience is relatively small right now (correct me if I am wrong)... anyway I think it's a great time to start here with it... to be one of the first, trying some new stuff and having these little experiments every day... ;-) keep on with yours, I think you have a lot of fun with it and your audience will grow fast.

Thanks for the encouragement @hauptmann. I plan on posting other more personal type of vids in the future anyways, I really like the platform and I think it has a huge potential, so I'm here to stay either way. The audience is indeed small and there is a huge learning curve for newcomers which I think is a set back for many. It has been fun for sure and welcome to dtube I gave u a follow!

I think those personal blogs, or any genre will be cultivated through upvotes.

Agreed, but if there is no curation rewards after 7 days, will old content even have any visibility?

It's my understanding, that future plans will reopen and going forward will have visibility. So yeah, we have to walk in faith for a minute as the developers work. Now is the time to shape the community, while its small.

This is a great topic :) actually videos are viewable still after 7 days and I know I have been able to search for videos after 7 days too. I also heard that all the videos are stored and will be viewable probably after the beta version of DTube so it's awesome that a lot of work is happening right now

Nice filling of frame! :D

Thanks for the tips sir, I learned from a pro... haha. You can search older videos but its just so hard. I guess we need a recommended video list? And I didn't know that about beta super cool and exciting.

The whole 7 day payout thing plus you can't play a majority of older videos really lets Dtube down. I hope they fix the storage system on it soon.

Yes Mr. @kevinli you are right. I think it will get fixed though for sure...I hope.

I definitely have wondered the same thing! I would love to see more videos on various things like DIY, lifestyle, etc. but I agree with you that it is not necessarily the easiest to find. I also do think this factor will make DTube more mainstream! Even personally for me with what I post, I try to do a mix. I enjoy talking about crypto and sharing my journey and tips, but I also like showing people my hobbies even if the audience is smaller!

Yeah. I think a lot of people wonder the same thing. I know it would be worth it in the long run and I'm gonna do some more vids sharing my journey. Just a bit hesitant you know...unchartered grounds I guess.

I'd definitely recommend diversifying your content if it's what you're passionate about, people here will appreciate it and even if it doesn't get on trending it will still be viewed by a lot of your subscribers. Until they work out the kinks here though, you might also want to also post it on YouTube for those longevity issue reasons.

True, I will be making more diverse content either way its my full intention. But yeah youtube is good to upload on and I try to upload different content on youtube and dedicate other content dtube specific but it's a lot of work.

I know the feeling, I planned to keep uploading on both, but I have been so focused here I never upload to YouTube anymore. I need to though...

Glad that you are bringing these topics to light. I hope that the future Dtube will have the ability to search for videos out of the pay period because if I create a tutorial that people really enjoy but can not master within the 7 day window of visibility I feel a lot less drive to create these more complex tutorials. The developers seem to be working quite hard to figure all of this out so the long run of this platform seems to be looking pretty good to me. Glad to see you adding to the value of the community by asking these questions and excited you are now part of the DtubeDaily crew :) Cheers!

Exactly thats what was trying to say, it's not that I don't want to create that kind of content...it's just sometimes I feel less driven to do it as you say...You can find content older than 7 days, its just you have to really search hard for it which is not very welcoming to people. Yeah I just joined dtubedaily! Even though I don't post daily. Haha.

I want to be posting this content so bad but just as you are experiencing I don't have the drive because I feel it will be lost in the blockchain along the way. I love creating for myself but certain content is for other peoples benefit. When I feel that no one will be able to benefit because it will simply be gone then its quite hard to have a drive to create in the first place.

No worries about posting daily! We are a community of creators, innovators, and personalities and each and every one of us is trying to create a family feel first with a focus on content second. The idea behind this group is to support one another and each individuals creative process. The daily side of things is more about the daily interactions we try to have with one another. At least that is the way I see it :)

Thanks for the follow as well!

We agree. We would like to see more creativity in the videos on Dtube. There are way too many videos of people talking about the same things. That's why we're trying to provide new and fun content that is made to be entertaining. Besides that, we've decided to be Steem Millionaires. Check us out:

Was trying to understand how to grow my account, just realized that wording and hash-tagging around #dtube #bitcoin #crypto helps a lot. And your video confirmed this, went back thru your videos and had a look at payouts, and i think that's the pattern, at first, to grow audience for further video exposure.
