I use 2 Zoom H1s and keep my gain low depending on the situation. For a live band on the bigger stages 15% will usually works well and 17% for most small venues. The H1 is one of the more versatile recording devices I have ever used. It can be used as a hand held, Camera mounted, and my favorite; suspended from an old fishing pole with rubber bands. There are better microphones, but at the $100 price point, the Zoom is hard to beat, besides, even the pro's would hesitate to take a $5,000 microphone to a rainy, muddy Motocross and grab the Zoom instead.
