So far, I've come to love it here and I've been doing all I can to make my presence felt in the community, though not by commenting because I still have a limited knowledge about basketball (but I'm learning) however, curating has been my focus, and now, I'm always lurking to place a downvote on certain contents.
As early curators, I totally understand the fact that we'd upvote anything to maximize our rewards as though it never remains the same when more people join the game. However, it wouldn't be nice if we reward contents that have nothing to do with the whole idea of @dunksocial
I've noticed a few posts that have nothing to do with basketball and even though distributing of tokens is key at this initial stage, it doesn't mean we should reward undeserved publications.
That said, I also wish to have full control over my downvoting power and utilize it well. I downvoted two articles today and it ran as low as what you can see on the image above. It tends to have the same issue we encountered with the upvoting mechanism.
So @rob23, please have a look at that and make the necessary adjustments.
Right now @dunksocial doesn't have a discord server where I'd prefer to be reporting this issues, I can understand the reason why too. However, if you're on discord please drop your username so I can reach to you there next time.
Peace :)
I don't like Discord. Discord servers can be filled with unsavory and disgusting activities (even downright safe spaces for harassment and extortion) and while I have used the browser version just to see what is happening with Hive on occasion, the app is troubling as far as privacy and security. Discord screams a lack of professionalism and there's too much ugliness. Slack can be bad too (like any other platform), but given the more corporate embrace of Slack... there's more of a likelihood that people will behave accordingly.
Each tribe should have more power as far as governance as opposed to an attempt of an overarching body that does not look out for the best interests of each tribe. I may make an alternate proposal to the Hivewatchers proposal to decentralize activities and leave plagiarism/quality issues to the tribes as opposed to a centralized body that is less knowledgeable of the topics. The matters of illegal stuff (exploitation, murder, abuse, etc.) can be overseen by a more centralized body, but tribes should be able to self-police in this regard. I want to open this up to @wil.metcalfe for thoughts because I know that Wil has expressed concerns on this matter.
Is self-voting bad? It really is miniscule and at some point, you're just going to stop doing it anyway. If your content is good, you're going to get the upvotes anyway - even if you're on a "global blacklist" (which is dubious). I don't get caught up in the language of casting aspersions like some others because the usage of certain terms can result in lawsuits and it's part of why Hivewatchers needs to be completely re-thought because of their centralized authority and the language/forum used. Concerns about plagiarism go out the window when you get served a lawsuit where a brand is seeking millions in damages because a few people decide to go out of their way to call a company or person a "scammer" without any regard for the consequences. It puts us all at risk and we cannot quarantine ourselves from it. Major stakeholders in Hive need to act more corporate... don't act like Twitter, Facebook or YouTube, but professionalism and carefulness of language goes a long way. Those with "authority" need to act like it and there must be protocols.
I probably will create a tribe/token in the near future (I'll be a part of DunkSocial still, don't worry!) and I would probably be tougher as far as discussion. I'd want to channel that message board energy to the tribe I am creating as opposed to what I see in much of Hive, where the content is thin and not much is actually discussed.
I see the opportunities of growing here on Hive for my brand(s), but I also am starting to see some of the problems and I want to help fix it so that I can deliver the content that you want.
I also have another problem, @rob23 how are dunk rewards issued?
I mean when our posts or curated posts pays out and rewards are sent back to curators and authors, how are they being issued?
Because I never see the transaction history in my Hive Engine neither do I see it on leodex.io.
Even while it's on pending, it doesn't appear anywhere, and then I'd just see my balance change without seeing the issuance history to know where the tokens are coming from.
I am happy that someone closely monitoring the content here..
It is necessary @rob23 ,we should have Dunk powered downvote account that can be tagged for DV.
Downvoting at this initial stage has to be done with care so people don't feel being chased away.
Some may not really know the focus of the community and just use the tag randomly, so, it is important we address it initially with comments regarding the downvotes.
However, when it comes to people deliberately milking then there's no need for an explanation for the downvotes.
Right now there's actually no need for an account for downvoting contents, that should be the job for us curators because we'd also be the same people upvoting them in the first place.
Congratulations @espandorr! You have completed the following achievement on the Hive blockchain and have been rewarded with new badge(s) :
Your next target is to reach 700 upvotes.
You can view your badges on your board and compare yourself to others in the Ranking

Reach out to me at rob23#8076 I think the downvoting issue you see was the same one we were having with the upvoting earlier on, I’ll tell the devs and work it out. With the issuance I have had no issue, the rewards come from the scotbot run by tribaldex; reach out on discord and we can look into it further if you want
