If asked what generation I belong to I usually respond with Gen X. Since I was born in 78 that's technically correct by most charts I've seen but there is that middle ground of being a Xennial which might be more accurate. So, growing up in the waning years of the Cold War I absorbed a lot of dystopian science fiction and when I started to learn about screenwriting it's what I tried to emulate.
Following Mad Max, Blade Runner, and Escape from New York there were plenty of copycat movies. I do have a fondness for those Italian post apocalyptic movies though. I'm sure there were pornographic parodies but I haven't found them yet. I've caught a few softcore dystopian flicks on Cinemax. Then there is the cult classic Café Flesh. Even if you haven't watched it there's a chance you've heard it since the beginning of More Human than Human by White Zombie samples it. Which made drives home from track practice when my mom was driving, awkward. While still considered a hardcore porno, the story plays out like an amalgam of Kurt Vonnegut and Harlan Ellison stories.
The mall where I work closed in the middle of March but since my store was labeled as essential it remained opened. The store was open but the mall wasn't and the bus stop is on the other side so that meant having to climb 3 flights of stairs in the parking garage. It's not the first time I've used them but I started changing up which stairwell I would use. While scaling the stairs in the morning was bleak and exhausting it was those cloudy afternoons heading to the bus stop that I started to realize that I'm living in a dystopia. It became more and more obvious staring out the bus window at the empty parking lots.
Daydreaming has offered me a measure of escape from 2020. One of those daydreams led to an idea for a porn series. I kept thinking about how so many kids were denied their senior prom and for some kids prom is their first time. I started seeing a world where that stairwell belongs to an apartment building along with a kid that should be in college but a new scamdemic put a stop to it. I also started to see an agorist in her early twenties working as a courtesan. She takes the kid under her wing and gives him a real education.
