On a hunting trip, Damien got an eagle’s egg. His wife put it together with the hen’s eggs which she had kept for hatching. In due course an eaglet was hatched along with a dozen chicken. All of them grew up under the care of the mother hen, eating grains and worms.
One day, the eaglet noticed a golden eagle flying effortlessly up in the sky. ‘What is that, mom?’ the eaglet asked the mother hen. “Oh, that!” the mother hen replied, “that is a golden eagle. But don’t waste your time looking up at that. We are not meant to fly like that.” Believing that it was only a chicken, it lived and died like a hen without every flying like an eagle.
There is an eaglet hiding in each one of us. We need to wake it up. The most important requirement to achieve this is a strong desire. But the unfortunate part of life is, as Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Most people go to their graves, with music still in them.” If you want to soar like an eagle, we have to learn the ways of an eagle. If you associate with achievers, you will become one. If you associate with givers, you will become one. If you associate with complainers, you too will become one.
