The earth is round, we know its round. Satellites show that its round. Satellites work because its round. Other planets are round, the sun is ... round. The shape is just natural for the organization of spinning masses that large.
Maybe you should ask your self why the earth is spinning in the first place? Or even better will it always continue to spin? The answer might surprise you. It won't. It will eventually stop spinning. In fact we can even measure that. The length of a day actually gets longer over time :) (that time frame is big, but its measurable by current technology)
