So I am thinking about selling online and I need to decide between Ebay or Amazon. I have heard people refer to Ebay as an online garage sale, but I really don't think that applies anymore. I have heard that Amazon has a more upscale clientele and they are willing to pay more on average.
Now I love shopping on Amazon and I love their return polices, but I am not a consumer in this case I am the seller. I wan't my customers to be confident with whom they are buying from, but I don't want it to be to easy to return especially when I am responsible.
Ebay has come along way in protecting consumers and sellers. They also make it easier to return items now, but I believe the seller has to opt in to that, but off the top of my head I am not sure.
Amazon pretty much dominates the internet for online sales and have considerably more traffic than Ebay, but is this a good thing? I can see Amazon being a lot more competitive than Ebay, but then again it might boil down to the items I am selling. As with anyone if I am the only one selling it and it is in demand then I can chose my platform and be successful.
My biggest concerns are fees and recommendations - Ebay charges about half as much as Amazon does in fees. I have talked to some guys that pay upwards of 25% to Amazon and that doesn't leave a whole lot of meat on the bone for me. Ebay charges around 10%, but you also have to pay Paypal, so your really looking at 13%, still less than Amazon.
Then their is the recommendations below your listing. When I buy on Amazon I see a group of products that are the same as I am buying, but are cheaper. If I am selling on Amazon I don't want them telling my potential customer to go somewhere else.
I am leaning towards Ebay, but I want to know if anyone can think of reasons I shouldn't.
Remember that Amazon requires UPC's for everything and if your stuf doesn't then EBay is your only choice.
Go with Ebay Bezos is trying to take over the world.
I like Amazon and have been stiffed on Ebay before.
Ebay has excellent protection as does Paypal. It is unlikely that you would be taken advantage of today.
I think you have already made up your mind. Go with Ebay.
