If yes, I’ve got an exciting treat for you today! I had the absolute pleasure of having an online conversation with a makeup artist extraordinaire. 😃
If you haven’t been reading my blog before, you may ask; “What does a makeup artist do?” Well, they’re like magicians who use makeup to make people look even more exceptional! 😎
How could you not? Come on, you know what I am talking about. Such a shame that you haven’t been reading my blog before today. 😞
There is only one way to make it up to me, and that’s reading all my previous blog posts. Yes, not just a few, but all of them. You can start right now. 😈
Nah, just joking of course, I’m so glad to have you here on my blog, all of you. That’s why I’m going to tell you a little secret. 😁
When it comes to putting on makeup, especially that tricky fine line under my eyes, I’m a bit of a goofball. 😳
Yup, I often make a mess, and I’ve even had to call in a cotton swab rescue mission to fix my makeup blunders. It’s like a tiny makeup adventure every morning! 😫
No, no, don’t worry, my dear readers, because our makeup maestro is here to help us all. She’s all about bringing out our natural beauty without the mess and makeup remover battles. 😄
I also have a fun riddle for you too today. Why did the makeup brush break up with the blush? Because it couldn’t handle all the cheekiness! 😂
Well then, are you ready to join me on this makeup magic journey? 😮
Ok, grab your makeup brushes and let’s dive right in because we’re about to learn some fantastic tricks and tips to look and feel our best every day! 😍

What is your name, function, and the company you work for?
Jackie Alves, Lead Makeup Artist & Head Educator
My company is The Beauty Bar, I’m the Founder
How old are you?
49
What kind of work do you do, or what are you studying to be?
I’m a full-time makeup artist and makeup educator/instructor
What made you decide to become a MakeUp Artist?
I’ve always loved helping women look and feel beautiful. In a world where we constantly compare ourselves to an almost unachievable image of what we believe is beautiful. I love showing women how to
bring out their own natural beauty every day.
Don’t get me wrong, though, I love a good transformational glam session, but it doesn’t
have to be every day.
Is beauty important to you? Why?
Absolutely, beauty is important.
Whether we, as women, feel beautiful or not can really impact our day. From the everyday activities of life to important or special occasions, looking our best helps us feel our best, and operate with a higher level of confidence.

What are your successes, and how did you achieve them?
From landing my first makeup gig in Las Vegas at the age of 17, to now owning a 2000sq. ft. makeup studio, I’m so proud of all of my accomplishments.
But I think the biggest success is the Makeup Academy I launched during 2020 and it exploded into a full in-house artistry course here at The Beauty Bar.
Aspiring makeup artists now have an opportunity to gain the skills, knowledge and experience they need to start a real beauty business.
What’s something you might want to do in the future?
In the future my aim is to have more Makeup Academy locations, creating more opportunities for young women from all over the globe to learn not only the art of makeup, but also learn valuable beauty business management skills and gain the confidence they need to succeed in
a crazy cosmetic world.
Is the name of the Brand important to you when you buy make-up?
I teach my team and my students both, that the name on the package is the last thing I’m interested in. What’s important to me is what’s in it. What formula is it? Will this be good for your client with their individual needs, climate and occasion?
Describe your personal make-up style?
Everyday beauty and occasionally I love a good, soft glam look for myself.
How did you find your personal style? Do you have a signature look?
After embracing my gray hair and looking forward to turning 50, I began looking for what made me feel comfortable and beautiful. Not what’s trending on social media. My signature look is definitely soft glam.

Do you have an influence on other people’s make-up or clothing style?
Always! And I’m proud to say that because I consider myself a champion for women, those that aren’t ready for cosmetic procedures, or maybe just don’t want to do any of them.
It’s ok if you DO love having all those things done, but if you’re like me, and just want to age as naturally as possible, that’s ok too. Not saying I won’t consider it in the future, but for now, I’m comfortable with my bags and wrinkles. Haha!
What are in your eyes the best trends at the moment?
I love the fact that trends are constantly changing. It keeps the rules from being too rigid, so makeup can just be fun. One of my personal favorites is a slight sparkly shimmer on the bottom eyelid. It lights up a woman's eyes and brings attention to them.
What are in your eyes the worst trends at the moment?
Too many layers of everything. In my 30+ years of doing makeup, I’ve never found it necessary to have 6 different shades or products on a face before you even get to the foundation.
Having cream contour, color corrector, and concealer all packed beneath your foundation, just adds so much extra product.
Another trend I never give kudos to, is under-eye baking or powder setting. It always (and I mean always) creases, especially for us chicks over 40.
What kind of beauty advice would you give us?
Makeup should be fun and never uncomfortable. Wear what makes you feel beautiful.
Don’t strive to look like someone you’re not. I have so many clients who come in and ask me to make them look like JLo.
I usually just giggle and tell them; “Girl, you’re not Puerto Rican!” (unless they
are! lol!!)
Next, we have a good laugh together and talk about a look they would like that’s achievable and duplicatable. I want them to be able to look just as beautiful tomorrow and the next day, not just when they come to see me.
Who is your style icon and why?
I’m a huge fan of the 1990s supermodels. Christy Turlington, for example, looks magnificent with a simple, classy winged liner and a nude lip. That’s my jam.
Is there something else you would like to share with us?
I’d love to mention that I take great pride in how I treat the women I have the privilege of serving through being their makeup artist or personal Beauty Coach.
I take a holistic approach to my clients and their needs. To me, they’re not just a face to put makeup on, they’re beautiful humans who deserve to look and feel their best.
Sometimes that’s as simple as helping them find one or two new techniques that showcase their best features, and sometimes it goes as far out as designing a completely new skincare and makeup routine for them.
Whatever the individual need of my client is, I’m here to love on them and help them navigate the craziness of the beauty
industry.
