Several years ago in Costa Rica, some ecologists had a great idea to help the environment with the waste of a company dedicated to the elaboration of juices, nevertheless, they never imagined that this idea was going to take a total turn and was going to result in something that would change the world.
Daniel Janzen and Winnie Hallwachs are the names of the ecologists of this magnificent idea, they approached a company to propose a project which consisted of the company granting the orange peel waste and the pulp, as well as a small piece of land to be poured there.
The company agreed by granting them the land to deposit the waste. So in 1997 this project was started. The terrain was a deforested and clean place.
One year after the project began, more than 12,000 tons of peels and waste arrived. When the terrain was filled with wastes, it was abandoned for more than a decade. In order to be able to locate the place, they placed a yellow sign, so they would not lose the location.
When they decided to return, finding the sign they had left was almost impossible as the picture was totally different compared to 16 years ago.
They searched for hours and could not believe it when they got back that they had been walking precisely the site they were looking for.
The comparison was similar to naming the differences between day and night; what was a place full of orange peels, had become a place with incredible vegetation and a healthy soil.
The difference between the land with wastes with which it lay next to it was that the vegetation where the peels had remained, the vegetation varied while in the neighboring land only a single species of tree had been given.
"The vegetation in the place was incredible, you could see a healthier soil, huge and strong trees, in adition to different species and all thanks to the waste that everyone thought was useless, but more than a decade later, the results were not to be believed, " says Janzen.
Usually, most of the countries throw orange waste into landfills, but if we follow the example above, it could help the world in a very significant way.
When the last tree is cut, the last river poisoned, and the last fish dead, we will discover that we can’t eat money.
