Strategies in Europe have made every effort to point out that there can be no winners from the escalation of the US-China trade conflict, but a new study reveals that there are actually more beneficiaries, writes Deutsche Welle.
A study by the EconPol Europe research network analyzes the impact of US tariffs on China and the effect of China's retaliatory tariffs.
In September, Washington imposed import tariffs on Chinese products worth about 250 billion dollars, while China introduced tariffs affecting imported goods worth about 60 billion dollars.
According to the study, Chinese exporters incur approximately 75% of costs, which means that a net amount of $ 18.4 billion will ultimately be added to the US economy.
Two factors play a major role in this. The most obvious is the immense imbalance between Washington and Beijing. But equally important is the fact that US tariffs have been imposed strategically, ensuring that Chinese products affected by tariffs will not be hard to substitute.
Chinese exports to the US will drop by 37% due to increased tariffs, the study shows, and this will eventually lead to a 17% decrease in China's trade surplus against the US.
So this means it's a win for Washington against Beijing. I implore the Chinese government to be more strategic in their mode of retaliation.
Ikedi i don't think China its playing a losing battle...America imports more from them moare after all.
