We have found ourselves in several moral conflicts through our lives, so probably these kinds of questions have been in our head somehow and more than once.
Well, let me ask you: Have you noticed that the prevailing paradigm is focused on the individual without analyzing the environment or situation? Even more, the environment is accepted without questioning the real causes the development such situation.
Think about it, moral behavior is not just about our own essence, behavior, family, income, education, parenting, personal intentions, or other such factors commonly discussed concerning a person's character; this is an inherited myth that we have been carrying thousand of years.
I heard many times this: "What happens if God puts barriers in your life? Well, we have to act morally"... For sure, our own morality is the first step, However, we tend to accept the "barriers" as immutable, divine, and out of the discussion.
This idea that morality only relies on the individual behavior ignores the incredible, stress-inducing pressure placed upon a society that is based on its members fighting with each other to survive. In such a situation, ethical behavior has a limited or none capacity for expression.
The main problem is not that people are not capable of being tolerant, compassionate, helpful, and respectful, it is that the socioeconomic system will not support it. In fact, the more ethical you are, the more likely you will fail in the game of commerce. Our economic system does not support sociological human compassion. It has not been designed for it.
