Ubi would allow people do do more what they want, personally i think its an alternative more and more attractive as time passes assuming we get closer to post-scarcity or near that.
what you forget is that there are people who want to work because they enjoy it. not only that but any UBI would likely not be more than the minimum to live your life and living anywhere high value would need extra income.
also when did a large portion of people self educate for job oppertunities? most people who self educate (me included) do it because it is fun and they have a love for subjects considered educational. for the rest there would still be a school system or similar to educate the masses
and yes sure people would probally not work full time, I know I wouldnt hahah, but even more people working part time will probally be more appropriate as more and more jobs get automated, for example one of if not the most occupied jobs is within transportation, think trucks, buses and taxies. (in the US its the most occupied field) and then look at autonomous vehicle technology and try telling me that even by the end of the decade signifficant amounts of these road vehicles arent likely to be autonomously driven. the truck company can cut out the employee and use their truck 24/7 at a cheaper fee afterall!
In norway for instance where 6% of the workforce (roughtly 160 000 people) work in the north sea drilling oil and gas. well I personally am curious how the goverment claims industries like off shore wind will create replacment jobs for a vast amount of these as they say. Its gonna be intresting if they turn to concepts like UBI (even if temporary) to not cause mass social issues
we can count on new jobs being created but if thats gonna happen its gotta be quick, I can see waay more jobs in danger of disappearing than new jobs on the horizon looking ahead the next decade or so.
