Something to think about: two billion people alive today have never turned on a light switch
I'll just point out few facts for you. Today, the average person on the planet consumes power at the rate of about 2,500 watts, or to put it a different way, uses 600 calories per second. About 85% of that comes from burning coal, oil and gas, the rest from nuclear and hydro (wind, solar and biomass are mere asterisks on the chart, as is the food you eat).
source: Now that's a lot of watts...I think :)
Since a reasonably fit person on an exercise bicycle can generate about fifty watts, this means that it would take 150 slaves, working eight-hour shifts each, to peddle you to your current lifestyle. (Americans would need 660 slaves, French 360 and Nigerians 16).
Next time you lament human dependence on fossil fuels, pause to imagine that for every family of four you see in the street, there should be 600 unpaid slaves back home, living in abject poverty: if they had any better lifestyle they would need their own slaves.

If it were not for fossil fuels, 99% of people would have to live in slavery for the rest to have a decent standard of living, as indeed they did in Bronze Age empires.
The gold market (Store of Value) is estimated at $7 trillion and the currency market (Medium of Exchange) is over $100 trillion. Both Bitcoin Cash & @Bitcoin want to rule both.
Just like how the printing press enabled the unrestricted circulation of information which undermined religious/political authority at the time, Bitcoin enables unrestricted flow of money, which will likely undermine the power of banks and nation states. But they will not go anywhere....

We need like this post
Very interesting post. Can't believe there is that many people that haven't turned on light switch.
I guess their light switch is the sun ;) they live with nature 100%
Sometimes I wish I didn't know that the light switch exists. You only need something once you know about its existance and the only feel the loss if you can understand the gain it might bring. Getting up with the sun doesn't sound too terrible after I tried all the light switches available to me. Buth alas, I already know switch is there.
Good article. Made me think about the world and society today. I'm still waiting for my industry, in which i'll thrive, to pop up :D.
Getting up with the sun is not terrible at all. It's pretty refreshing. No alarm. Sun wakes you up. I hope you will find your industry soon :)
And there are a lot of researchs that are linking all the modern illnesses with artificial light and claiming that light hygiene and nature contact is far more important that diet, exercise, etc. (heating is not better also). So we waste so much energy for heating and lighting and it actually make us sick, which is a new waste of energy.. I am a fan of dr Jack Kruse
I don't really know what to say here. I think every human reacts differently. But one thing is certain - we all need sun (daily is the best choice, but we can not choose the weather), fresh air, and main exercise like long walk or running. About artificial light and heating... I don't have a real comment here. But at least I know that without heating, you wouldn't casually walk in your apartment or house - not during the classic winter, here in central europe. We waste a lot more energy than 100 years ago. And if we want to fill our demands, there has to be certain amount of energy for work and/or free time. Way of life is changing. If you want to make money and heat your place in the same time...I have an idea for you. Mine cryptocurrencies. Google it....
