Mosquito Larvae, A Little Salt & Simple, Natural Prevention

in #ecotrain6 years ago (edited)

The monsoon rains have barely begun and already I can SEE the mosquitoes. Seemingly everywhere.

But worse still I can SEE the mosquito larvae swimming around in the flower vase on my coffee table!!! This short video shows you both the actual problem, and a simple natural solution:

Step one is obviously change the water in flower vases daily and get rid of any pot plant saucers in the house which hold water. Change the water in pet bowls completely in pet bowl, EVERY day, after cleaning well – just topping up their water allows the larvae to thrive. It really only takes an inch of water for 2 days to breed a whole new family of mosquitoes.

When you discard the water, the larvae will continue to thrive, grow and develop in your drains.

SALT WATER is your friend!! Salt water will KILL mosquito larvae and will deter mosquitoes from breeding. Putting a handful of salt down your drains every other evening and leaving it there while you sleep makes a BIG DIFFERENCE to mosquito levels. Put a plug or cup over the drain holes – the hand basin, shower recess and the kitchen sink. If you are out all day, leave the plug over the sink hole to reduce the number of mosquitoes setting up house there.

If you’re staying in a hotel or guesthouse, this is a simple way to reduce the mosquitoes which seem to just “arrive” in your room overnight.

Cheap kitchen salt – the nasty stuff you should never really be eating – works well.

Mosquitoes don’t travel far at all in their life time – research suggests not more that 200 meters. So if you have a lot of mosquitoes in your house or room, they’re breeding somewhere very local. Possibly even on your coffee table.

Remember to use fans in your home to keep a great natural repellent handy too.

Awareness is everything, and simple natural strategies can help to keep you, and your family, safe from mosquito borne disease.

A timely tip . Here in India we use to have dengue fever as soon as monsoon arrives. While cleaning all those water we use to put kerosene oil instead of salt. But now I have option to prevent further breeding. Thanks for sharing

Didn't know that salt could make a difference in reducing Mosquitoes hence malaria. Its natural and has no environmental effects and i think i need to get the word out there. Any other ideas as to how to deal with mosquitoes on your hedge as well as mosquito repellent plants?
