He texts me religiously, every morning. And sends me money every day. Not bad for an online relationship with someone I've never met that started only about 5 months ago. Ok, so it's not a LOT of money he sends yet, but it's growing... Haha, actually it's only a teeny weeny bit right now. But I get those messages every day. Every. Single. Day. A girl likes constancy in a man.

It struck me last night as we were driving to meet @eco-alex, the Train Driver of the @ecotrain, in the flesh for the first time, here in Chiang Mai Northern Thailand, that online relationships ARE vastly different on the steem blockchain. Just through the daily messages, chats, comments, discussions, responses to questions and ... admittedly a lot of emojis!... it really is possible to build relationship. Why is that, I asked myself? And the reason is pretty simple to me. The people who engage and uplift and support and challenge one another by sharing and discussing ideas are deeply committed to paradigm change. The new social structures, ways of exchange and ways of communicating. And we show up for each other - in words and with our minds open - most every day.
And so there we were, my daughter @nabithecat and I, off to finally meet him. He had flown in from India for a visa run and was joining us for some live music and a little Japanese food at our friends' eco-green business in the Old City. I thought he'd be shorter and Ploi thought he'd be taller. I had never stopped to think he'd have a faint English accent. It was FUN to be recognized the moment we walked in to the event. And to be deeply encouraged that simply through dialogue, writing, communication and regular exchange, people CAN build bridges and friendships and create community.
Steemit isn't just an investment where you park some money and program your autovoter. It's a conversation we have, regularly, about things that matter, with others who choose to build something new. It's a conversation about art, music, health, the environment, energy, connection, creativity and the future of the world.
I was really thrilled to see @nabithecat my 14 year old daughter joining in. Despite the arduous task of hanging with her mama yet again.
It's nice to build on our tiny Chiang Mai steem community and discover we have deep connection with "strangers" from across the world. Only they're not strangers at all after we have grappled together over tricky philosophical questions, made allowances, held space and learned to listen.
As more and more of us deselect from traditional families, traditional ways of working, become global and find that our immediate physical inner-support-circle can be pretty small (if we have one at all), it's these OTHER relationships which augment our quiet spaces, who speak in the same language as we do, and who share visions with us for a different world and a braver, kinder future.
