I agree. It's never good when parents act too much like dictators over their children, especially once they have grown older and they still keep them under their thumb. Forcing the child to do as the parent wishes not as the child themselves wish. That will only distance the parents from the children as the child will push back and do things like run away like your relative did. It will also cause the child to hide things from the parents out of fear, and that is where the bonds of trust between parent and child start to erode. This is a very insightful post, thank you. I bet you are a great parent!
