Thanks for the tips! I had read about cold stratification, but it was a brief quip that basically said to put them in the freezer for a bit, with no other detail. This makes far more sense!

Interesting... in general most of the sources that I have read was moist but not sopping and in the fridge, not the freezer... in the just above freezing to 40 F range. In nature seeds go through freeze and thaw outdoors, so freezer sounds intuitive to me too, but that is what I have read. Interesting that there are different approaches.
