RE: All About Solar Power At Earthship Karuna

in #ecotrain7 years ago

Awesome, Alex! It really is so much easier and more affordable if you're willing to change up your appliances a bit. Our average installation is about 7kw, but they're mainstream houses with no changes made. They're also mostly grid tied, which is certainly a step in the right direction. I think we will see battery costs drop radically in the next couple years, and then a mass movement to decentralize.

thanks @solarsupermama! Battery costs, and lifespan are the weakest link in the system.. i still hold my breath on this.. even Teslas power banks really didn't last long enough to make the investment worthwhile.. oh What i could do with 7Kw!! ;-)

They are for sure the weak link. It's definitely coming down in price. Hopefully lifespan will go up as well. I wasn't super impressed with the power banks, and I think the solar roofs are a total waste of money. The guy is a genius, but not every idea is a good one. Electric vehicles will just about take over in the next 5-10 years, and that will make all the difference in the world of batteries.
I could seriously power several houses here with 7 kW. Of course no such thing as electric stoves in these parts. And of course no one has a dryer either.
