We just moved from Monkey River, Belize to Hopkins, Belize. Monkey River is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen, but it was just too remote, and getting in and out was an absolute nightmare. I needed more community, more activities for the kids, faster internet, and easier travel!!!
I am loving it so much! It’s such a wonderful place, and the people are friendly. There are a lot more opportunities for all of us! I wanna show you around so you can see some of the highlights. I don’t want to focus much on places to stay or eat, but if you’re coming for a visit, definitely contact me, and I can help you find an awesome spot.
This is Lebeha, the drum school. Hopkins was founded by Garifuna people who escaped from Spanish slavery on the islands off the coast of northern South America. This is an incredibly rich and diverse culture, and here at Lebeha, they share all about playing and building drums. They are always happy to play for you or teach you to play, and they also offer traditional food and have sweet beach cabanas.
This is my friend Nina’s place. She is building a container guest house. There’s going to be a pool in the middle one. Isn’t that cool?! I love the designs in the door. They’re made with something called a plasma cutter which sounds like something out of Star Wars. It’s a work in progress, but this place is going to be fun.
Nice Cream! Do you have any idea how excited I am to live in a place with an ice cream shop?! This is artisan made ice cream from Dia and Ned. It’s ridiculously delicious! They fill this precious little waffle cone bowl for the equivalent of $1. I had cookies and cream, and it was so yummy!
This is what we call Grand Central Station. You have the bus stop, Jalapenos (Taco Tuesdays with tacos for $1 US!), and the short walk to the pier!
Here’s the Funky Dodo Hostel! It’s a typical hostel in an exceptional location!
Sexy Dogs! I’m still not sure how a hot dog is sexy, but I love this sign so much.
Check out our awesome park and sweet little library! This is a wonderful place! This park is so much more fantastic than any other park we have been to in Belize. The kids love it here!
If you’re looking for coffee, check out Thong’s. They have yummy coffee and espresso drinks and free wifi!!
We also have a tea shop! This is almost like a miracle in Belize.
Here’s the tattoo shop where my girl got her first tattoo. Really kind and professional people here and a super clean environment!
And here we are on the beach! Some of these are from the Hopkins Day Festival. Beautiful sea, sand, and coconut trees! This is the life! xoxo
Much love, y’all!
