Realizing that Steemit is an international platform with users of varying degrees of proficiency in the English language, I thought it would be helpful to the Steemit community to highlight a useful English word, a word that will be applicable to their Steemit experience. English is a very expressive language. According to the Oxford English Dictionary modern English utilizes 171,476 words. Today’s word patronage is only one of them, but fret not, I will be posting many more useful words, so stay tuned logophiles and vebivores!
noun
- the distribution of jobs or money on the basis of patronage
- power to make appointments to government and grant political favors
- kindness done with an air of superiority
They tried to teach me English in school. My Australian kept getting in the way. :)
English actually feels rather labored than expressive. The need for many words is a sign of mechanism..
Better to speak the language of love huh? ;)
Absolutely..
Love it or hate it, it’s become the lingua franca of the world. I wish I was bilingual or trilingual for that matter. My grandparents spoke Italian and English but teaching the tongue of the old country was discouraged back then.
Why is that @dissfordents?
My thoughts on the British language is influenced by my experiences in communicating the same joke in various languages like Zulu and Afrikaans, and the difference is more that phonetic. It's very emotive telling English jokes in alternate language. Almost like adding cheese to a peanut butter and jam sandwich..
