Mind and conceptual maps are used to give information in a creative way, many are used by teachers to make students understand a specific topic and the students use maps to organize ideas during the hours of study, here I’m going to explain these two types of maps and I will mention some of their differences.
Conceptual map:
We put in them the most important concepts of a subject and these are enclosed in circles and tables, we can use lines to connect the concepts and show the relationship between them, they are very useful if the information is well summarized, too much information on the map doesn’t allow a good communication.
Mind Map:
It was created by Tony Buzan, he was a psychologist born in England and in the 70s developed this type of maps. These use creativity and play with the neurons of our brain, these maps use the main ideas of a text and emphasize the key words of the same, the key words are arranged in such a way that the reader gets an idea of the theme and some lines are used to connect words to get at a better understanding of the subject. Students uses the read the whole theme and after they have finished the topic they use the keywords of the map to reconstruct the whole theme in their minds, which is the goal of mental maps.
Mind Maps Construction Techniques:
1- Carefully read the entire text and make sure all content is understood.
2- The main ideas of the text and the most important words must be located.
3-A scale should be made with the key words.
4-Connect all ideas with lines.
Difference between a mental map and a conceptual map:
We use a mind maps when we have a good management of the subject and this map we are building uses images and words that help us to represent the whole subject in our head giving us a good idea of the topic. Concept maps use the most important concepts in the text and these should be summarized in the best possible way trying to not accumulate a lot of unnecessary information that will make learning difficult.
Both maps, apart from being a good tool for the study, are very useful in presentations and exhibitions and they clarify many of the points that we want to touch. We can see that maps are one of the consequences of the communication of human beings and we use them to facilitate the understanding of the texts that we use in our time as students and in the workplace. we can be understood more easily the topics with the maps.
