Some Parents Who Tested Homeschooling For First Time Might Now Be Hooked

With the recent lockdown around the world it has meant that millions of students have had to pursue homeschooling education.

For many families this was their first test of homeschooling and might not have been a pleasant one for them. It no doubt gave many parents a newfound appreciation for what teachers go through and the skill that they have to help teach new generations.

For some, not everyone

While there are some families who might not have enjoyed the experience, others are going to thrive and it will be just what they are looking for. Some families need more freedom with their education structure and that freedom should be their right to pursue.

A recent online survey suggests that many parents might soon be looking to continue with this sort of schooling for their own family.

Although there might be many families who want to engage in this sort of learning, juggling that reality financially is another story altogether. And for many it is new territory, they aren't sure how to go about structuring and pursuing this education format.

Lucky for them there are countless resources to be found online. And hopefully they won't be treated as a criminal for wanting to pursue this option once it becomes a choice to make between one or the other.

One downside of the recent lockdown and many kids being left at home unexpectedly is that in some circumstances it has meant leaving those children home with their abusers.

Sometimes when teachers might notice signs of neglect or abuse, they aren't able to see those same signs when the children are only seeing them over Zoom or aren't seeing them at all. Same for their friends or others in the community.

Some reports suggest that hospitals have already been seeing more cases of child abuse, during the COVID-19 lockdown. Other reports allege that child sex abuse reports might have risen, but in some cases they dropped because there was no one to see and report.

Some estimates say as much as a 50 percent drop or more.

Calls to crisis hotlines grew more than 890 percent.

Not only has it caused some potential cases of neglect or abuse but there are also many who have been struggling with the mental difficulties of being all by themselves for weeks or months. To some that might sound ideal, but for others it is described as their own personal hell.

There are sure to be a few families who will come out of this feeling thankful for the homeschooling experience that they went through, because now they have some real experience to help them decide what sort of educational future they want for their children and family altogether.

Interesting article, thank you. I did not enjoy homeschooling alongside homeworking. My husband is a teacher but could not teach my son without “triggers“ being pressed so I had to do it all until he returned to school this week. In 4 weeks’ time its the school holidays unless the pandemic gets completely out of control again, which is very likely, in which case it will be earlier! 💭

that would be hard to juggle the two like you had to, i hope it doesn't get out of control with lockdown again

Yes, my son loves school. He needs the structure and the class size is small at the moment. When my daughter goes to nursery, I can concentrate on my work! I’m a bit of a workaholic. Nice to see you on both blogging sites 😊
