BULLYING TAX

in #education7 years ago

So the other day, I was reading my feed and I saw that there was a State imposing fines on students that bullied. Each new occurrence of bullying resulted in a new, higher fine amount. It sounded great to me. As a mother who has had to extensively deal with bullying with my children, I definitely think this would be a good way to get parents involved and issues resolved. Most times schools do not want to address bullying situations, because when it is a repetitive issue, it becomes a liability for them, and so the schools would rather not acknowledge accounts of bullying, rather to admit to gross lacks of supervision and negligence. Another issue with students that bully, is that usually, their parents are not very involved with the child's academic success. In our school district, less than half of the entire district's parents will show up for mandatory conferences. The bullying child is a neglected, most often times abused, and /or traumatized child, seeking a way to rid themselves of the pain they feel by causing and inflicting it on others. In my opinion, of children who bully, in conjunction with a fine, they should have to undergo a mandatory psyche eval with a few counseling sessions with their victim. For extreme cases, there should be a registry for bullies that can be noted in their academic profile. Do you think that this would be too extreme of a response to bullying? Can you share what your district is doing about the bullying epidemic?
