Unlimited Memory

in #education4 years ago

Hey everyone. I am doing a quick intro post about a new book that I am reading. It deals with ways to improve your memory and is written by Grandmaster Kevin Horsley. His book is titled, Unlimited Memory. Lets get to the intro so you get an idea of what this book is about...

"Understanding is the key to learning but how can you understand something if you can't remember it? Understanding does not create use: only when you can instantly recall what you understand, and practice using your remembered understanding, do you achieve mastery. Memory means storing what you have learned; otherwise, why would we bother learning in the first place?"

This is definitely something I can relate to. How many times have you heard a funny joke, but when it's time to tell a joke, you completely forget the joke or you forget the punchline. There is a big difference between remembering a few jokes and recognizing or understanding thousands.

Horsley goes on to say that our memory is the corner stone of our existence, it determines the quality of our decisions and, therefore, our entire life! Learning is the ability to acquire new information, and memory holds the new info in place over time. Memory is the foundation to all learning. An increased memory also enhances basic intelligence because intelligence is based on all of the events, people, and facts that you can recall. The more you remember, the more you can create and do because factual knowledge always precedes skill. Information can only be built onto more information, so the more you know the easier it is to get to know more.

Something that many people do not realize, is that our memory is just a habit, and habits can be improved with the right kind of training and practice. You need to do different, to get different. Mastering your memory is going to require a different kind of thinking. When you judge info, you stop yourself from learning it. You need to read with an open mind. Horsley then goes to state that he will break the book into 3 sections covering the four keys or "C's" to improve your memory...

Perhaps is future posts I will touch up on those 4 key "C's." Be on the lookout and thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed this intro to this book. It is a very interesting read, and I think it is important to constantly be learning. This book helps you learn to learn. I will see you soon.
