Unlimited Memory Part 1

in #education4 years ago

Hey everyone. In my last post I did an intro to Unlimited Memory by Kevin Horsley. Today I will be building on that intro to give you a brief look at one of the opening chapters. Lets get to it...

Horsley starts by stating that people learn quickly when they only focus on the information and skills that matter - excuses don't matter, and they are "thought" viruses. Excuses in life keep you from getting what you want to accomplish. Every excuse you accept makes you weaker. Excuses stop you from concentrating and paying attention. When you excuse yourself from learning something new, you block your focus and your energy. Always remember, "where your attention goes, your energy flows."

Excuses many people make include, "I am helpless." This could be people stating that they are not smart enough, it's not in my nature, or I don't have the time to practice the information (time is always there; you just need to schedule it). Another classic line is, "you can't teach an old dog new tricks," which Horsley responds, "then it is a good thing you are not a dog!"

Other types of excuses lay blame on someone else. It is impossible to have a negative emotion without blaming someone or something. You need to free your mind. There are 2 choices with life and experience: you can either learn from it or you can place blame. The choice is always yours.

The 3rd type of excuse falls under too much stress. We excuse ourselves into living mediocre lives. We explain why we can't do this or that; we excuse ourselves from taking responsibility. Decide now to stop giving away your power to your excuses. You are responsible for your learning. "The person that has the most to do with what happens to you is you! If you believe your limits, your life will be very limited." You can learn new skills when you decide to let go of your excuses, judgments, and complaints. If you consistently change your approach and increase your desire to learn new information, you will master it.
