MIRRORING THE FUTURE OF EDUCATION THROUGH THE TEACHERS.

Just recently, the school principal of one of the prestigious school in my locality organized a staff meeting to plan for the upcoming school term. The discussion mainly focused on analyzing the students' academic performance from the previous term, which took up a significant amount of time.

The teachers expressed their concerns over the poor performance and discussed potential solutions, highlighting issues like student focus and study habits. Despite using conventional teaching strategies, the teachers felt disheartened as they reflected on their efforts.

Following this narrative, drive me to research and observed my immediate society in understanding this illness affecting our pupils and students hereby helping educators to provide appropriate support.

Similar to a doctor diagnosing a patient to prescribe the right medication, teachers, as 'doctors of the mind,' must identify the specific challenges their students face. In a world increasingly marked by cases of illness.
Following my observation, I discovered through research the 5 learning disabilities commonly affecting my community which for easy comprehension I will not like to explicates on it deeply.
Have a slide on it below;

  1. Dyslexia
    This illness shows it's symptoms on the following;
    •Reversing the position of letters
    •Difficulty with phonological awareness (the ability to break down words into their constituent sounds)
    •Struggle with reading comprehension
    Delayed speech
    •Difficulty learning auditory processing disorder new vocabulary or rhymes
    •Having disorders in visual processing may have trouble understanding directions
    Affects spelling, copying from text
  2. ADHD
    ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
    It's symptoms includes;
    •Difficulty paying attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity.
    •Inability to sit still
    •Being disorganized or forgetful
    •Difficulty staying quiet and attentive
    •Lack of motivation
    •Mood swings or emotional outbursts
  3. Dyscalculia
    With symptoms as such;
    •People with dyscalculia have difficulty understanding math concepts, difficulty with basic arithmetic operations (such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), and difficulty with more complex math skills (such as algebra and geometry).
    •Struggling with mathematical concepts such as measuring, time, and estimating
    Being unsure of how to do basic math problems
    •Difficulty following the order of operations
    Finding it challenging to count and group numbers together.
  4. Dysgraphia
    Symptoms of dysgraphia may include:
    •Difficulty with written expression
    Messy handwriting
    •Taking a long time to write
    •Struggling to express thoughts in a clear sentence structure
    •Poor grammar
    •Problems organizing thoughts and ideas in writing,
    •Difficulties organizing pages, chapters, books
  5. Dyspraxia
    It can affect fine motor skills, such as writing or tying shoelaces, as well as gross motor skills, such as balance and coordination.
    some symptoms include poor balance and struggling with fine-motor tasks.

Having discover this and go round to verify how true this may be, it raises the question of; How can teachers adapt their methods to help these students thrive?
Thus, it seems to me that the following can be considered in solving the problems:

  1. Simplifying lesson materials and focusing on key points when teaching could be valuable strategies for fostering better learning outcomes in the classroom.
  2. The generation is smarter. Help them to use their strengths to improve their weaknesses by motivating them and showing them that they can do what they determine to do better.
  3. Be more a leading teacher, a facilitator than bossy, so that you can lead them to their goals.
  4. Understand the learners' environment, because having an understanding of the environment means understanding the people within it. It will help enhance their success outside the classroom setting. Anything other than this will set them in confusion.
  5. Parents, check your children when they are back from school, discipline them when they neglect their responsibilities so they do not grow irresponsible and lazy. Love and care for them; that will go a long way to boost their performance in one way and another.
    What must be done today shouldn't be postpone and pay less attention to.

Teachers in all fields must arise to create the future now for " today's teacher mirrors the future of the nation".
