School Can Be Fun: Get Into The Swing Of Things With These 5 Tips

in #education6 years ago

It’s the middle of the school year here in the Southern Hemisphere and I can already see the look of exhaustion and despair on the faces of the teachers when I fetch my son from school. Even the students seem to be counting down the days to year-end already and motivation is somewhat on the down-low. So, as a result, I did a little bit of brainstorming and came up with 5 ways for students (and even teachers) to get back into the swing of things and feel inspired and energized.

5 Ways Students (And Teachers) Can Get Into The Swing Of Things

ONE: Plan ahead.

Planning ahead makes you feel more in control and it might just draw a picture that things are not that bad – you’ve got this! Get yourself a diary or a calendar or use your smartphone and plan ahead. Enter assignment dates, test dates and exams dates as soon as you have them. Having a schedule really helps lesson stress and anxiety later on. Plus, you’ll actually find that it helps get you into the “swing” of things.

You should also include all fun social events to look forward to too, these fun markers help break the school term that might seem quite tedious.

TWO: Go digital.

Spice your new school year up a little by trying something new. Use your laptop or tablet to download digital copies of your textbooks! Your back will thank you, less weight to carry around!

With reference to point one above, you could even create a digital calendar.

THREE: Find a study buddy (or teacher pal).

Nothing gets you more amped than a friend who is eager to get going with the school year. Find someone in your class, school or varsity who is full of positive energy and keen to learn. You will be amazed at how much their energy will flow into you too!

FOUR: Start eating breakfast again.

I know this sounds like a bit of a silly one, but at the same time I know many of us agree that we often skip breakfast due to the morning rush. Get into the habit of eating a healthy breakfast early. After a few days of getting into this habit your body will feel energised and you’ll already start thinking more positively!

FIVE: Have a school celebration.

We tend to wait for the end of the semester to celebrate, since it’s the vacation that we look forward too. Why not do something fun to celebrate the fact that it is school time instead? Throw a party, have a round at the water park or go for a short road trip on a free afternoon.

Honestly, all of the above points are helpful, but it is all in the mind. Start with some positive thinking and focus on the end goal. School can be fun, if you make it fun! Start with a healthy breakfast and a good shower, dress in your best and arrive with a smile – it will make the world of difference and who knows, you might actually start to enjoy teaching and learning!
