in #eevee20 days ago

Hi there. In this Pokemon TCG post I cover more card reveals from Pokemon's Terastral Festival ex set in Japan.

On November 1, 2024 it has been revealed that there is a special set that features Eevee and its evolution. This special set called Prismatic Evolutions is to be released on January 17th. More information on the retail product releases can be found here from Pokebeach or here.

The Known Eevee Cards

Before the news reveal there were 3 known Eevee themed cards. These are Sylveon ex, Eevee ex and Flareon ex. I upload the screenshots without commentary.

Leafeon ex

Leafeon ex is a Stage 1 Tera Evolution Pokemon of the Grass type. It evolves from Eevee or Eevee ex. It has two retreat cost, 270 HP, Fire Weakness and two attacks.

The first attack of Leaf Typhoon requires one Grass Energy and one Colourless Energy. It does 60 damage for each Energy attached to all of your opponent's Pokemon. This one of those attacks that punishes opponents for having too many energies in play. As Leafeon ex is a Grass type it does counter Charizard ex. If the Charizard player has 3 Fire Energies in play then Leafeon ex does 180 (60 x 3) damage and then it doubles to 360 damage. This 360 damage one hits Charizard ex with 330 HP.

Moss Agate is the second attack from Leafeon ex. It requires one Grass Energy, one Fire Energy and one Water Energy. It does 230 damage with the healing affect of healing 100 damage from each of your Benched Pokemon. This healing effect is quite powerful.

Vaporeon ex

Vaporeon ex is the Water type Evolution of Eevee and Eevee ex. It has two retreat cost, 280 HP and Lightning Weakness.

The first attack of Heavy Squall requires one Water Energy and one Colourless Energy. Heavy Squall does 60 damage to each of your opponent's Pokemon ex. It is a spread attack on the opponent's Pokemon ex. The main obvious drawback with this attack is that the opponent may not have any Pokemon ex in play. That would make the Heavy Squall attack useless.

Aquamarine is the second attack. It requires one Fire Energy, one Water Energy and one Lightning Energy to do 280 damage. The drawback is that Vaporeon ex cannot attack during your next turn (unless it is moved to the Bench). An attack that can do 280 damage is quite powerful as it can knock out almost any Pokemon that is not a Stage 2 Pokemon (that is Stage 1 and Basic Pokemon). Many VSTAR Pokemon have 280 HP so an attack that hits for 280 damage is quite dangerous.

Glaceon ex

Note that the translation mentions 130 HP. It should 270HP as the Glaceon ex card itself says 270HP.

Glaceon in the video game is an Ice type. In the trading card game it is a Water type. The first attack of Frost Bullet requires one Water Energy and one Colourless Energy to do 110 damage plus 30 damage to 1 of your opponent's Benched Pokemon. It is an okay attack. The damage output is okay but it does not really one hit knockout any 2 prize Pokemon.

The second attack of Euclase is one of those conditional knockout attacks. It requires one Grass Energy, one Water Energy and one Dark Energy. Euclase knocks out 1 of your opponent's Pokemon that has exactly 6 damage counters on it. One combo would be using Vaporeon ex's first attack and then using Glaceon ex's Euclase attack. This combo requires too much energy and would be difficult to pull off. If there is a faster way to put 6 damage counters without using Vaporeon ex then Glaceon ex could be dangerous. For now I think this is not a good attacker.

Jolteon ex

Jolteon ex is the Lightning evolution of Eevee and Eevee ex. This one has a zero retreat cost, 260 HP and Fighting weakness. The first attack of Flash Spear requires one Lightning Energy and one Colourless Energy. Flash Spear does 60 base damage with the option of discarding 2 Basic Energy from your Benched Pokemon. You do 90 more damage for each card discarded in this way. If you discard 0 cards you do 60 damage. Discarding one Basic Energy would result in 150 damage. Discarding the maximum of 2 Basic Energy from your Benched Pokemon would make Flash Spear do 240 damage.

Dravite is Jolteon ex's second attack. Like Vaporeon ex and Flareon ex, the attack requires one Fire Energy, one Water Energy and one Lightning Energy. The attack deals 280 damage with the drawback of not being able to attack during your next turn.

Espeon ex

Espeon ex is a Stage 1 Psychic Pokemon with 270 HP, one retreat cost and Dark Weakness. The first attack of Psych Out requires one Psychic Energy and two Colourless Energy to do 160 damage plus discard one random card from the opponent's hand.

The second attack of Amethyst does not do damage. For one Grass Energy, one Psychic Energy and one Dark Energy you devolve each of your opponent's evolved Pokemon by shuffling the highest Stage evolution card into the opponent's deck. Instead of into the opponent's hand like with TM: Devolution you put the evolution card to the deck. This provides further disruption to evolution decks but is it worth the extra Energy costs? For now I say no.

Umbreon ex

Umbreon ex is the final Eeveelution card. It is a Dark type Stage 1 Pokemon with 280 HP and two retreat cost. The Moon Mirage attack does 160 damage plus confusion for the cost of one Dark Energy and two Colourless Energy. Umbreon ex can hit for weakness doing 320 damage on popular Psychic Pokemon like Gardevoir ex with 310 HP and Mew ex that has 180 HP. Even if you don't one hit knockout with Moon Mirage confusion is pretty annoying for the opponent.

The second attack of Onyx requires one Lightning Energy, one Psychic Energy and one Dark Energy. Onyx does not deal damage but you take 1 Prize card with the drawback of discarding all Energy from Umbreon ex. This Onyx attack is very good in the late game if you are 1 Prize card away from winning. Energy requirements could be tricky but Sparkling Crystal ACE SPEC tool and Crispin supporter will help.

Amarys Supporter

We finally get the final Burberry Elite Four card. The Amarys supporter card is kind of interesting. You draw 4 cards with the drawback of discarding your entire hand at the end of your turn if you have 5 or more cards in hand.

If your deck is okay with cards in the discard pile after having a large hand then Amarys could be a good niche addition. Possible decks that benefit from this card include Ancient Box, maybe Gholdengo ex decks and maybe Regiodrago VSTAR decks. This is one of those cards that needs playtesting to get a feel for the card.

ACE SPEC - MAX Rod

This MAX Rod ACE SPEC card is a powerful recovery card. Think of it like the card Night Stretcher times 5. I am not sure which decks would need this though. Gholdengo ex decks could benefit from this, maybe Teal Mask Ogerpon ex decks could use this to retrieve Grass Energy and draw more cards. Let's see how it plays out.

Closing Notes

The Eeveelution cards are interesting. There are some that stand out more than others in terms of attacking ability. The ones I like are Jolteon ex, Flareon ex and Flareon ex. There are more cards to be released from the special Eevee TCG set. New trainer cards could change gameplay styles and the metagame.

In Eevee themed decks I think the ACE SPEC card of choice would be Sparkling Crystal. Each Eeveelution has different Energy requirements in its attack so Sparkling Crystal would help in meeting attack costs.

The supporter Crispin will come in handy in decks with different Energy types.

I get the feeling every Eevee card will have its own special art version. More information to come. As of November 4, 2024, a lot of pre-orders have been sold out. Collectors going crazy for this January 2025 special set. I think it would be kind of difficult to get Eevee cards for deck making unless you are willing to pay more than usual.

Thank you for reading.
