Marsa Matrouh is a quiet mediterranean town on Egypt's North Coast. Heavily populated by ethnic minorities, such as berbers and western desert bedouin, as well as a hub for internal Egyptian migration, the city is a small melting pot with a strong Libyan influence. This influence can be felt in nearly every market in the city, each bearing an assortment of spices, delicious locally grown olive and date products, and other Libyan delicacies. These are some photos from the famous "Libyan Souq" or Libyan Market of Marsa Matrouh. I loved the colorful and appetizing array of spices. The proprietor of one shop, "Boss Nagy" agreed to pose for me.
