In this modern age, information technology can greatly influence elections of big countries like USA. You can achieve all sort of information online with the right tools.
Data mining tools are in more demand and different agencies use this data for different purposes. Recently, Google tried to intercept attempt of hackers to disturb upcoming election campaign of Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
Mainly all of these attempts were done using phishing which is very old hacking technique, most advance form of it is social engineering and many good security systems fall prey to social engineering.
This was expected because last time Russia was accused of interfering in USA elections and we still don't have any hard evidence backing that theory. US politics can effect whole world so foreign entities definitely want to influence or bypass the elections.
All of this makes me wonder how an actual election would be like if it is conducted on blockchain. Some blockchain are already in R&D phase for this and we might soon witness this kind of experiment. Will it be able to provide more transparency as we normally expect from blockchain or will be more worse than current system?
