What part of “No” didn’t [they] understand?

Confession time...
I have been the black sheep of my family since I was allowed to register to vote. Well, well before then if I’m being honest. I am the oldest of four and the only girl. My parents are staunch Republicans and University of Florida Alums. I somehow aligned more with more Democratic beliefs (some at least), but also knowing that when it came to the General Election I was allowed to vote for whomever I so pleased.
They didn’t have mail in voting when I was pregnant and on bed rest, or recovering from surgery after nearly going septic after the first surgery was so fucked up from the use of an unsterilized piece of medical equipment. I was not allowed to drive, was connected to a wound vac, and still went and voted in person for the mid term elections. I ubered there because my husband had just lost his beloved grandfather in NY and flew up with his sister for his services. The risk to my personal health was not outweighed by going to vote.
I arrived and immediately told the poll worker what I was enduring and that I required assistance. They were more than happy to assist me; they always are, as I always am- Poll worker or not- to help someone through the door and to the table who may need assistance in getting their correct ballot. It’s what we SHOULD be doing for our neighbors.
Because I have literally no immune system due to a blood disorder in the leukemia family called Myleoproliferative Neoplasm Disorder (MPN), I didn’t want to risk the preliminary voting stuff in the height of Covid. No one knew enough to assure me of anything.
HOWEVER I made one thing abundantly clear on my last mail in ballot when I checked a box. [_] I do NOT wish to receive a ballot by mail for the General Election, I will vote in person. Ohhh! You better believe I checked that box hard and dark!
So my surprise I received this utter bullshit in the mail today.

I said NO, and since when does “no” mean “yes, by all means send me that ballot anyway so I can let you decide for me if my vote will count”?

I bet you can guess who my next phone call will be to... and I bet you can guess who won’t have a job next year in Florida.

Here’s a tip for the non-southerners. Never anger a southern LADY who was raised with the grace of her mother and the foul mouth of the barn hands hired by her father to help with the horse ranch. Why, it was the Republican thing to do; be equestrian, be a debutante, know how to set the table properly and when to use what set of china. Please trust that I also know how to order replacement pieces to every set of china I own or has been passed down to me. Southerners are funny about their sets of china and their sun tea and oh we love our Publix grocery stores.
We are neither redneck nor po-dunk. We are respectful and say “Sir” and “Ma’am”. In fact, a proper southerner is one who can slay you upwards and down with their silvery forked tongue before you realize what has happened to you and you will walk away apologizing thinking it was your fault, but most often it was anyway.
Days of Cotillion and Debutante Balls may have fallen by the wayside recently because it was “hard work” for those up and coming 16-21 year olds, but the attributes of those who went through those classes and have daughters and carry those traditions to teach on are very important.
The discussion about CONSENT and saying “NO” and meaning it and having it be okay to say no and not feeling embarrassed or ashamed about saying no applies to everything. Acceptance of a project at work that may overwhelm you, a date that may not be to your liking, a drink that might put you one over, sex before you’re ready or even if you’re not in the mood. But saying “NO I DO NOT WANT TO VOTE BY MAIL” That means you understand the inherent risks associated by participating in mail in voting for the general election.

Here is why I have not changed my voter registration card yet- after the votes for Trump have been tallied, there’s a second statistic they will pull up. How many registered Democrats votes for Trump. I want to be counted in that statistic. I want to be part of that statistic because I feel that will almost be more important than my vote for him.
