I'm no mathematician, but today, I'll have to teach you the math behind the music you enjoy streaming and show you how every smile your favorite artists' voice brings you, causes the artist to sink more into depression.
It's no secret today that you have to be a real big shot musician to make any reasonable profit off streaming platforms. If you doubt me, you could ask google and she'll show you many stories circulating the net about rip-offs and lawsuits that mostly never end in favor of the artist who probably has spent a lifetime writing songs and have nothing to show for it. It's sad I know, but being an indie artist isn't a cakewalk either.
There is a saying in my country, they would usually tell this to someone who is getting far less than they deserve for any kind of work. They would say...
Half bread is better than none.
The try to reason with the person that it's better to receive some kind of reward for their effort than receiving nothing at all.
For me, I think this is what the major issue really is, I mean most people would rather be signed to big labels that would help push their music out and have it on all streaming platforms; being promised the world but only given a street in an isolated country, than fighting to survive as an indie artist who probably will put more songs up for free or eventually get them to streaming platforms and loose the war in negotiating good royalty packages because they aren't backed by an established label.
But emanate is just another cryptocurrency and I'm really careful about them...
Well NO!!! Firstly, Emanate is an audio exchange protocol built on the EOS blockchain and it's here to put a smile on the faces of artists, musicians, songwriters, producers and basically all music lovers all around the world today.
Now that I have your attention, let's bring out our calculators or our brains; for those of us who have heavenly IQ's.
feel free to visit google.com to confirm all the figures I'm going to show you below, you might also want to read this article on David Crosby
Here is exactly how much Artists earn to stream their works on these popular platforms
- Itunes - In 2017, the service paid $0.0064 per stream. That number rose earlier this year to $0.00783. Today, that number has settled at $0.00735. Artists on Apple Music would need around 200,272 plays to earn the US monthly minimum wage amount.
- Spotify - Spotify pays about $0.006 to $0.0084 per stream to the holder of music rights. And the "holder" can be split among the record label, producers, artists, and songwriters.
- Google play Music- pays around $0.00676 per stream
- Deezer - $0.0064.
These numbers look cool, but of a truth, it's pretty obvious that for the average musician, there is no future for you on these streaming platforms, yet you have to get your music out right?
Emanate is the only streaming platform that will actually give 15% of every dollar that comes via streams($0.15) to the people who have staked interests on the platform(curators and other stakeholders) while 85% goes directly to the artists ($0.85) and every other person that had a hand in the song being streamed. I had a detailed explanation of how these different parties that come together to create a body of work can get paid simultaneously here.
I don't want to buy any Emanate token... I just want to listen to good music
That's not a problem. Emanate would still have subscription fees for the listeners. All you have to do is to buy MNX with your local currency, this would serve as the subscription fees you already pay on iTunes, Spotify, etc, further enriching the labels and taking even more from the actual owner of the music rights.
On Emanate, these subscription fees while you stream the songs go directly to the owners of the music rights and they, in turn, can now convert to EMT and further stake it to be able to upload more content or they convert it to cash and withdraw in their local currency.
So basically you would be supporting your favorite artist directly.
