TOOL Concert Experience

in #en-us8 years ago

Hey Steem community! About two weeks ago I made an account on here but I wasn't sure what to write about so I thought I'd share with you guys my experience of seeing the progressive rock/metal band TOOL! Anyway... here's about the show:

The first (and only) opener was crystal method. This was just a dj doing some electronic stuff. It wasn't really something I would listen to on my own but it was cool to watch, I missed a good chunk of his set tho. :, (

I also couldn't take a picture during his set because security was being so strict about photos at the time.

Now for TOOL:

After sitting in my seat waiting for the show to start for a some time the lights in the venue went down and Danny Carey came on stage followed by Justin chancellor and Adam Jones. They started the show off playing "the grudge" and about 30 seconds into it Maynard came on stage wearing his riot gear costume and started singing. I remember the whole crowd was really excited and the lights were so bright that at the part at 1:13 in 'the grudge' I couldn't even see the stage because I was being blinded by all the lights.

They played parabola (and the intro parabol) next and although this wasn't even one of my top 10 favorite tool songs, it was definitely a highlight of the show for me. I can't exactly explain why but it felt very euphoric and exciting. After parabola they played schism, which is definitely one of my favorite songs by them. It was a crazy experience.

They also played opiate and ænema, but seeing ænema is something I cannot not talk about in this blog. Not only is it another one of my favorite songs but there were so many crazy lasers and lights and other effects. It was definitely one of the best moments in the show. It's kinda hard to explain so I'll leave a video from YouTube that someone else recorded and hopefully you can somewhat understand what it was like.

Up until this point in the concert, time was was moving very fast for me, after the first 6 songs or so it had only felt like only 15 minutes had pasted. But now time started to feel like it was slowing down. They played descending and jambi next. Descending was pretty short but contributed to the great atmosphere of the show. Jambi was awesome to see live because it is another one of my favorite tool songs.

They also played third eye and forty six & 2. They didn't play the bill hicks intro to third eye but it was still fucking amazing. It was very atmospheric and i wasn't able to get it stuck out of my head for awhile after the show.

After an intermission Danny Carey played a drum solo which was a lot better than I expected. It wasn't very long so it never got boring and Danny Carey is easily one of my favorite drummers ever. They also played vicarious and sweat. Tool then finished this legendary concert with stinkfist. This is another song that wouldn't normally be in my top favorite tool songs but was awesome to watch live.

Overall it was amazing. I've never experienced a concert like this before, the band obviously didn't want their shows appreciated the same way other metal shows are, and they achieved their goal in that.
