I'm sure some people have automated votes set up to try and optimise for curation rewards, but that ignores post quality and just tends to keep the same people getting lots of votes. I'm voting totally manually these days.

I have many auto-votes set up for minnows, just because i cannot possibly get round everyone each day. These are more like encouragement votes, and the larger ones are saved for the content that stands out.
Just my approach, I appreciate 100% manual curators :)
