I currently run a testnet for hive-engine(only public one that I know of, more info here: https://peakd.com/hive-169321/@rishi556/hive-engine-testnet-setup-for-your-use). It allows users to test their Hive-Engine applications without needing to pay high fees of the mainnet by getting the BEEs they need for free. Right now its running on a pretty weak VPS which if a lot of users decided to use, could actually bring it to a much slower state.
If the proposal passes I'll bring it onto a stronger VPS and maybe even add a second node to it in the future if it is getting enough usage to the point where the second one is needed(on the same test chain id of ssc-testnet-hive
). I'll also update it more frequently and setup an account history server for it so that if someone needs the history for it they can have that. I like to base my testnet nodes off a live point of
I've got tons of experience running hive-engine nodes, both public and private and currently tribaldex is running off my account history node.
I'm asking for 10 BEEs a day(currently worth around $4/day). Of that, around $1.50/day will be dedicated to paying for the node($45/month split between an account history node and a rpc node) and other related infrastructure related to it. The rest get put into savings for if/when the price of crypto falls as well as paying for this in the future as the required server specs go up. If more nodes need to get added, the additional reserves will help pay for that(especially if I decide to get a node up in the US) without needed to get any more proposals out there. On the chance that the price of Hive/Bee falls as well, this will ensure that I won't need to create another proposal to fund this. Funds in the savings(periodically converted to a stablecoin most likely HBD) will be saved for either a rainy day when more nodes need to get created for any reason OR be used to buy own hardware so I can host a stronger node for lower cost.
You can vote for it over here: https://tribaldex.com/tokenfunds/BEE:WORKERBEE
This is getting renewed for another year. While the numbers from the old posts don't match up anymore, I am continuing the proposal and adding my rpc(https://engine.rishipanthee.com to it, and bumping up pay to 12 BEE/day.)
Edit: May 24 2023: The testnet is now running on IPv6 only due to the high cost of IPv4 addresses. If you don't have IPv6 at home, check out Azire VPN for IPv6 access over a VPN. If you want a hosting providor who supports IPv6, check out either Ryamer or Privex.
