For today's weed news we go to Great Britain.
British authorities have announced that they plan to begin allowing so-called emergency use of medical marijuana in England in the next couple of weeks.
The decision comes just weeks after a 12 year old boy from Northern Ireland who suffers from severe epilepsy had his CBD-containing medication confiscated at Heathrow, sending him into an immediate string of violent seizures. The boy was taken to the hospital where after some hours and many convulsions his medication was returned to him and he was able to get his epilepsy under control.
In a attempt to show compassion for people like the above-mentioned twelve-year-old, the government in Great Britain has decided that starting in the beginning of July, British doctors will be able to perscribe and order cannabis-containing medications in emergency situations.
Patients will need to show "exceptional clinical need" (a term that remains to be defined) in order to have a doctor prescribed them cannabis therapy.
Because there are virtually no doctors in the UK that are trained on the endocannabinoid system, it remains to be seen how many doctors are actually going to be willing to prescribe cannabis containing medications at this stage, since they could be held accountable for their recommendations/prescriptions.
Although this is far from a solution to the current outdated approach to medical cannabis (really marijuana all together) in the United Kingdom, it is surely a change for the better.
The recent events at Heathrow have sparked even louder dialogue about cannabis laws in the country. Many Brits are becoming more vocal about their disdain for the current cannabis laws.
Let's hope this is a beginning of something bigger, and not as good as it's gonna get.
And that's what's up in England.

I don't know why everyone wants to require some exceptional need for cannabis. It is about as mild as a drug can be but they treat it more harshly than opioids and chemo drugs both of which can kill you. It is a positive step though and hopefully seeing other countries legalizing will help sell the idea to the public there.
