What is the "Pareidolia" [To see faces where they are not]

Do you know what is a 'Pareidolia'?

The animal life provided with autonomous movement, is characterized for changing place, form and aspect infinite times along a generation, and the changes in the frequencies of light, added to the continuous change of place and position of our bodies, they do that the raw data of everything what we perceive it is a chaos impossible to deal.

The Pareidolia like way of being meant

Thankfully, our brain is equipped with some mechanisms to recognize bosses and continuities in the middle of all this sensory disorder. The networks neuronales are the perfect way to create systems that are activated always equally before seemingly different stimuli. Of there, that we could recognize the persons next we in spite of his physical and psychological changes.

Of there also that we could apply similar strategies in different contexts, apply the learned to different situations and even recognize a plagiarism in a musical piece. Nevertheless, this capacity has also a very showy side effect that receives the name of pareidolia. The pareidolia is a psychological phenomenon consisting of the recognition of significant bosses (as faces) in ambiguous and random stimuli. Concentrate, for example, on this duck:

Once you have realized that his beak looks like the head caricaturizada of a dog, nevermore you will be able to stop having this effect whenever you see a duck of this type. But not all the pareidolias are so discreet as this one. Evolutivamente we have developed networks neuronales entrusted to process relevant stimuli, so that some bosses make us much more evident than different.

In fact, in some moment of our evolution the visual system with which we are equipped became incredibly sensitive before those stimuli that resemble human faces, a part of the body that ensues from great importance for the not verbal communication. Hereinafter, in a point of our history we became capable of making infinity of objects being still simple, recognizable and regular bosses. And in this moment it began the holiday:

I turn fusiforme:

our radar of faces Our brains are provided with a few specific circuits that are activated to process the visual information relative to the faces of a way different from the rest of information, and the part of the encephalon that contains these circuits is also the person in charge of the phenomenon of the pareidolia. This structure is called a draft fusiforme, and concerning hundredth of second it makes us see faces there where they are, but also there where they are not. In addition, when this second possibility happens we cannot avoid have the strong sensation of being contemplating someone, though this someone is actually a faucet, a crag or a front.

This it is the power subconscious of the draft fusiforme: Let's let's want it or not, it will be activated whenever we see something that he remembers vaguely to a face. It is the counterpart for having designed a brain that is prepared itself to face great quantity of changeable and unforseeable stimuli. So, though through the fault of these pareidolias sometimes us sintamos monitored...
