The note says:
Our goal was always a quiet update for Bitcoin. Although we firmly believe in the need for a larger block size, there is something that we believe to be even more important: keeping the community together. Unfortunately, of course, we have not built enough consensus for a smooth update. Continuing on the current path could divide the community and be a setback for the growth of Bitcoin. This was never the goal of Segwit2x.
And he continues affirming that with the increase of the rates in the blockchain, they continue believing that a solution like the one of increase of the size of the block is necessary.
