Sometimes you don’t stay in a naturally beautiful place, but still there’s something beautiful about it. In Andrews, TX, the county seat of Andrews County, that thing was a service the Chamber of Commerce offered to travelers. Behind the Chamber of Commerce building, on the main east-west road through town, there’s a paved lot. And in that paved lot there are spaces for 5 RVs – of any size – with electric and water hookups, plus a dump station for common use. And it’s all free of charge for first-comers. They only ask that you stop in the office and register.
The people at the Chamber were awfully nice, and they pointed out to Kim a couple nearby highlights when she stopped in to register, including a pretty park with waterfowl, a fishing pier, and a walking trail. Lakeside Park, it’s called. That kind of hospitality makes you want to stay a couple nights and check the place out. But, then again, the facilities are meant to be for quick stopovers only. And that’s what it was for us. We did walk to the park (it was too late and and a little cold to explore) and patronize a couple local businesses for fuel and supplies. And we did discover and report a faulty water valve at our spot that needed repair, so I guess we returned a little bit in kind.
There were a couple interesting features on the Chamber grounds. One was the Veterans Memorial, with tributes to fallen locals and veterans from all wars dating back to the Civil War. The other was the under-construction Andrews County Heritage Trail. We sauntered through the Veterans Memorial. Maybe we’ll come back to check out the Heritage Trail … and that park with the ducks!

The soon-to-be Heritage Trail.
Bonus! Mario and Milo were content with the amenities.
