"Lion" stars Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman, Rooney Mara and introduces Sunny Pawar, who do a fantastic job in this film that touches your heart strings in many ways, and does it with beautifully constructed story.
-Separated at birth: Based on the book “A Long Way Home”, the movie focuses on Saroo Brierley, an Indian boy who, after accompanying his older brother Guduu to his night work, he gets locked up in a train by accident and gets stuck in another country, where he faces a lot of problems. One day, he’s adopted by Sue Brierley and John Brierley, an Australian couple that changes his views of life as he knew it. But when he grows up, he remembers his past life and decides to find his family.
-Playing the right strings: This film has an excellent character build-up. Not only do we see what happens to little Saroo, but we also feel what he’s going through, especially in his first couple of days in Calcutta. From his interaction with the kids in the subway, to his short lived peace moment with Noor, the child’s trauma is also ours. #JeSuisSaroo.
-Full-on waterfalls: Some might complain the movie is a bit slow, but if a production takes its time to create something (in this case, a character), and the conclusion pays off and it’s incredible, then it’s totally worth it. And that also speaks to every actor's performance, which were fantastic... So much so, that I can't pick a favorite.
Bonus Round:
-The orphanage scene is heartbreaking.
-I really appreciated the sweet and tender moments.
-Candy also makes me think about things… Not necessarily Indian-style candy, but I’m open to try them (to whoever wants to share one with me … How you doing?).
