Hello Steemians...
Finally, you would be able to watch the stage play performed by DeDramaClub at the Owerri steemit meet up that held two days ago.
What was on mind while writing the story?
I just wanted something creative and critical at the same time and often time topics about Women and politics often provide this space for me.
My mind made up, I went for the latter (Women)
Why do I love Women movies?
No matter how much a lot of people try to write off feminism or make it seem like a crazy movement, this doesnt take away the fact that Women still continue to be oppressed.
Yes, compared to before, the place of the woman has changed alot in the society. She is no longer a victim to certain cultural norms and values. Gradually, the society recognizes her as an entity that can stand on her own but what about Domestic violence?
Feminism has still not wiped away this mental whatever in men that they can treat women the way they like. It still doesnt make them see that women have their own eyes, their own hands, own head and don't share this with the men.
You will be heartbroken to see the level of maltreatment and oppression that women go through this days.
Feminism has still not taking away the physical and mental abuse some women suffer in the hands of their husbands.
Just look around you, there are so so many examples.
One thing that still baffles me is the society's reaction when it comes to sex, women and men.
The society sets goals for women. It prescribe the kind of things she should say and do and if she fails to do this then she is seen as a fallen woman.
But men, no, they can break the rules and they can even be honoured.
The society wants women to be upright but for men, it's okay to break the rule.
Feminism still hasn't taking this away and am going to use the famous BIG BROTHER NIGER show currently going on in the country.
The Big Brother show is a reality show, where about 20 Nigerians are gathered in a house to contest for money. Currently, the prize is 45 million naira.
Now, people have sex on this show and everywhere you turn, the girl is blamed, she is seen as a whore, a loose girl etc but the guy? He is praised. He is being a man by doing that.
When will the society stop to view women this way?
Why should it be okay for men to break such rules and not women?
Why should the society create a particular moral standard that the woman must live up to and then leave the woman out?
With this questions in mind, I wrote the story "Adanna: The trial of an African woman"
The story is a mixture of modern and traditional values and practices.
Traditionally, it makes use of traditional norms such as marriage rites.
In the olden days, the woman was supposed to marry as a virgin, failing to do this, she is seen as something disgraceful. It is almost a taboo.
On the night of the wedding is when women were supposed to get disvirgined. The sign of this loss of virginity is the breaking of the hymen. During those times, the man would be given a white cloth, the couple would have sex on this and it must be stained with the woman's blood.
In the modern sense, I create the character of a woman who moves from being relegated to becoming conscious of her sexuality.
She seeks an end to her oppression.
In her soliloquy, Adanna says
"Diary of an abandoned wife..
She wants to be listened to
To be treated right"
This voice doesnt belong to the traditional woman. At some point, Adanna screams "Why should it be different for women".
The story follows the life of Adanna who got married as a non-virgin after being promised marriage and an everlasting love by her ex-lover.
Adanna gets disvirgined by her ex-lover who leaves her. She falls in love with another man, Uzochukwu but out of the fear of loosing him or what the society would think of her, she keeps quiet about her status and only discloses that she isn't a virgin on the wedding night?
The rest of the story captures her trials....
Now, time to feed your eyes unapologetically...
Here is the full video to our performance at owerri.

The play was beautiful to say the least!
But is it possible for us to get a script of the play for those of us that love reading more than watching!
I don't think it's time for us to start releasing the scripts yet. @mimy is working on the script to make it bigger and so she might be unable to give out her intellectual property for now.

Wow, this came out so lovely. You guys were wonderful. Thanks @mimy for standing up for women in your post. I believe every woman has got what to prove that she is human, it depends on if we agree to stay down or rise up and fight for equity. I appreciate your personality. Once again kudos. As drama team mate, i appreciate you, as euronation team member, I adore you guys for honouring and adding glamour to the meet up
I will continue to say that being present and seeing this beautiful display live was/is the best experience I've had in a while. Kudos to the video person😊, you did a great job capturing all the moments, I'd have cried after watching this vid had I not been present to experience it first-hand. Wonderful post @mimy. I only wish they all were present to feel the actual sadness and pain we felt from your tears alone. Pain and sorrow of an abandoned wife😢.
